May 2024

And just like that we’re straight into May. (And looking forward to “May the 4th be with you”.

With release of the new M4 chips into iPads this month, we can expect to see more updates on the Mac front perhaps to also start using the M4 chip. So that will be interesting to keep an eye on its progress over the year ahead (and also into 2025 it’s rumoured).

May the month of May go everyone’s way!

Apple event “Let Loose”

Apple held a small 35 minute event where they announced the new iPad Air with M2 chip, iPad Pro with the new M4 chip, Apple Pencil Pro and an updated Smart Keyboard with them.

Details on the iPad Air can be found here and here.

For the iPad Pro information have a look here and here.

Details on the new Apple Pencil announcement here and here.

And for the new Smart Keyboard for these devices have a look here and here.

MacRumors also had a good little write up on the differences to the iPad Air and iPad Pro here.

If you want to watch the small Apple Event, you can watch here.

Apple M4 Chip

With the iPad Pro being the first device to get the M4 chip, it looks to be a fairly big improvement which we know will make it’s way to the Mac’s during this year and next year according to rumours. So a fairly big increase over the M1. And with Apple looking to improve a lot with Siri and AI going forward this additional processing power will certainly help.

If you want to read a bit more about the M4 there are a couple of small articles here, here and here

Have you considered if your computer stops working or could be down for quite a while?

If your computer crashes or is down for a long period time, or even if it’s going to be away for service work for a while, have you considered the down time this could cause to yourself, your work and/or business?

There is a way that an external drive can be set up beforehand where in these sort of circumstances you can still be up and running relatively easy - even if your computer has to go away for days to be repaired.

It’s a relatively cheap and easy process.

If you would like to find out more about how this can be set up for yourself or your business please feel free to drop me an email or call to discuss.

Be aware of “Fake webpages” advising you need to update.

So there is a bit of a rise on the number of webpages or fake links that will try to trick you into calling a number or clicking a link to “update” some piece of software.

I’ve written a page with a bit more info on it here
